Karuta Workshop (with Keitaro Kumehara: One of Japan’s Top Players)

At the joint workshop hosted by Karuta Club Munich and JACC Munich, participants will gain an introduction to the world of Kyogi-Karuta and its cultural background. A special highlight will be a demonstration by Keitaro Kumehara, one of Japan’s top Karuta players and a former Meijin, the highest title in Kyogi-Karuta. Afterwards, participants will have the opportunity to try the game themselves. No prior knowledge or Japanese language skills are required. The workshop is part of Munich Karuta Week, taking place from September 1–6, 2026, which will showcase Japanese Karuta culture in Munich through a variety of events. The highlight of the week will be the 2nd Munich Karuta Tournament on September 5, which is expected to attract players from other European countries as well.
